Some pictures tell it all…

A client said his Prius had the triangle of death on the dashboard and his diagnostic app showed error code POA80. Wanted me to take a look at his battery and run diagnostics on my test bench. As you can see in the right part of the picture, there was a battery module that had exploded. It true. A picture is worth a thousand words.

I dissembled the pack. Removed the exploded one and the one beside it, because it was leaking. Replaced the two and put the pack on the bench. After cycling, a couple more modules were identified as bad. After cycling a 3rd time to balance the pack, I let it sit overnight to insure all modules would hold their charge.

The Gen 2 Prius is back on the road and the owner a happy camper.
